A Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) is an electronic device used to amplify RF signals. TWTs are integrated with a regulated power supply and protection circuits to make a High Power Amplifiers (HPA), which commonly are used as amplifiers in satellite communication and terrestrial communication devices.
TWT converts the energy of the electrons into microwave energy and amplifies the fed low-power radio signal into a RF signal. The configuration of the amplifier circuit can comprise of a Helix Coil, Ring Bar, Folded Waveguide or Coupled Cavity TWT.
The fundamental construction of helix TWT is shown in the following figure.
